Mobile Lab Strategy and Expectations for Elementary Students

 

  1. Develop a routine for your classroom.
  2. Routine should include the following for everyone.
    1. Locate and hook the power slowly and safely from the cart. Do this in groups.
    2. Set the notebook on a safe surface. - Desk or Table
    3. Open notebook-not from the side, from the top.
    4. Locate and press the power button.
    5. Locating control-alt-delete
    6. Logging in.
    7. Wait for the computer load. Sing a song?
    8. Check wireless signal. Look in left icon tray. Is there a red x or is blinking happily?
    9. Practice keypad control, left-click and right-click and click and drag. (Double-tap later?)
    10. Close all windows. Save documents as needed.
    11. Log off or power off.
    12. Close the notebook.
    13. Insert power cord and place the notebook back in the cart the same way prior to getting it out with the charge light visible.

 

 

  1. Practice this routine 3-5 times or as needed to perfection with very simple web based lessons. Practice yourself first!
  2. Develop further from this routine appropriate to your classroom.

Student is able:
1.To locate the wireless computer symbol in the icon tray.
2. To find and view list of wireless options.
3. Choose and connect to a wireless access point.
4. Access a website via Google-(Checking for WAN connection).
5. Access student network folder(Checking for LAN connection).

Addendum to i:

Student is able:
1.To Move the cursor using the touch pad.
2. To use the left-click appropriately.
3. To use the right-click appropriately.
4. To understand the function and differences between the right and left click.
5. To double-tap appropriately.
6. To scroll using the right-click and touch pad
7. To scroll using only the touch pad.
